  • Michael Meadows院士现任betway西汉姆联教授、国际地理学联合会(IGU)前主席。他出生于英国,在剑桥大学获得博士学位,曾担任开普敦大学地理与环境学院经理,当选为欧洲科学院院士、非洲科学院院士、南非皇家科学院院士、中国地理学会外籍会士、国际科学理事会会士(ISC Fellow),是一名享有国际声誉的地理学家。研究兴趣主要集中在自然地理学的前沿领域,包括第四纪环境变化、人类世地理以及近代自然和人为变化对地貌和生物地理的影响。目前在Nature Communications, Science Advances, PNAS, Science Bulletin等期刊发表学术论文250多篇,出版专著40多部,他荣获中国地理学会国际合作突出贡献奖,担任Land Degradation and Development, Fundamental Research, Geoderma Regional, Geography and Sustainability, Journal of Arid Environments, Natural Hazards等20余部国际著名期刊的主编、副主编或编委。

  • I consider myself to. be, broadly speaking, a Physical Geographer.  More specific research interests include Quaternary palaeoenvironments (using proxies including pollen, diatoms, organic geochemistry, stable isotopes and sedDNA); land use and land cover change, land degradation (tools include remote sensing imagery and associated statistical analysis); soil erosion and soil conservation, human impact, the Anthropocene, sustainability, socio-ecological systems, geographical education.
